Description
Responsibilities of the Fire Protection Technician (FTP) position include but are not limited to ensuring all construction inspections up to and including the final construction inspection process is delivered in a professional and responsive fashion and assures full compliance with the applicable codes and standards. The position spends a significant amount of time in the field ensuring that fire protection systems are installed according to construction plans. The FPT serves as a vital part of the construction review and inspections process in our community. Additional duties will include support of other Community Safety and Service programs as needed.
• Serves as an active team member within the inspection services group of Community Safety and Service.
• Reviews commercial buildings plans for compliance with fire codes, policies and standards related specific fire protection equipment.
• Conducts site inspections confirming consistency between plans and construction.
• Coordinates and participates in acceptance testing of fire protection systems.
• Notes instances of noncompliance on plan and comments sheet and discuss modifications with team to bring plans into compliance.
• Meets as necessary with contractors, builders, developers, and owners to provide code information.
• Meets as necessary with city and county building departments, CSU, Timnath.
• Keeps records and prepares correspondence pertaining to construction inspections.
• Attend various educational events to acquire necessary skills for job proficiency.
• Complete plan reviews for hood and duct systems.
• Completes building and tenant finish finals.
• Completes initial Knox Box lock up.
• Liaison with Water Districts.
• Schedules and performs water flows and provides hydraulic data.
• Maintains System files and link with Technical Services and Inspection Services (High Plains, Premise history).
• Maintains the pre-inspection checklists program for Contractors.
• Maintains an accurate calendar and responds in timely manner to requests for information and inspections
• Pre-inspection meetings with contractors of large projects.
• Coordinate and orchestrate details of large building final inspections.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the necessary tasks and functions of this position. The successful candidate is not expected to possess all of the knowledge, skills and abilities described above at time of appointment, but must demonstrate a desire and commitment to develop, improve and learn.

Applicants must possess the following certifications or approved equivalent certifications:

o ICC Fire Inspector I

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to schedule work and meet deadlines.
• Possess a through understanding of fire science, the built environment, construction techniques and methodology and the interrelationships between.
• Possess experience or knowledge of the fire service, fire inspection and code enforcement and fire protection systems and equipment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Capable of conducting code research and application with discretion and impartial professionalism.
• Provide customer service including flexibility to assist the customer for successful completion of construction projects.
• Ability to use computer programs and applications including High Plains, Acella and others on different devices including phone, tablet and computer.
• This position is expected to acquire the following certifications within the stated timeline:
o ICC Fire Inspector II -- 3 months
o Fire Suppression Inspector – State of Colorado – 9 months
o Colorado State School Inspector – 9 months
o ICC Fire Plans Reviewer – 2 years
