Job Description:
Program Manager in YESS Classroom includes instruction, student recruitment, curriculum implementation, and parent/family engagement. It is a full-time, exempt position with full benefits, as outlined in the YESS HR manual.

Introduction to YESS Institute: The YESS Institute, founded in 2001, is a Denver educational nonprofit agency serving the Denver Metro area. The organization offers training, peer mentoring, and school engagement programs in the Denver Public Schools, Adams 14, and Westminster Public Schools. Our mission is to build EmoSmart Leadership™ within youth, their role models and organizations that support them. The YESS Institute has developed the “YESS Classroom”: an in-school, credited class supporting the school as an intensive, inclusive intervention. This comprehensive, wrap-around student engagement peer mentoring model focuses on turning students with academic and behavioral challenges into successful high school graduates and supports them in their post-secondary career. In the 2016-17 school year, YESS served 650 youth ages 12-18.

Areas of Responsibility
POSITION FUNCTIONS: The Program Manager will be responsible for the following areas of the organization:

Classroom

Create a YESS classroom as a safe learning environment for all YESS students
Develop and maintain effective relationships with YESS students.
Problem-solve and coordinate individual success plans for YESS students
Facilitate/Teach every aspect of the YESS School Engagement Program, including but not limited to the YESS Institute Road to Success curriculum: social-emotional learning, academic skill-building, leadership, healthy choices and individualized tutoring
Support multicultural leadership development of peer mentors and coach them in serving as positive role models within the school and the YESS classroom
Provide mentors with the required training to be effective role models
Recruit, hire and supervise Mentor Leaders that will serve as student employees for the YESS Institute and are teacher assistants in the YESS classroom.
Match selected mentors and mentees effectively to ensure maximum program impact
Review mentee grades weekly in school database to track performance and missing assignments. Complete grade tracker sheets and provide information for parents/guardians.
Facilitate classroom activities and exercises that promote a safe learning environment and develop group cohesion, enthusiasm, cultural understanding, and trust
Assist YESS Upperclassmen – peer mentor – students, in collaboration with the YESS College Navigator, in their college research, applications, and scholarships
Coordinate and facilitate closure event for mentors and mentees at end of the school year


Data

In collaboration with the YESS “data guru”, maintain and track records, participant database, evaluation data and other required documentation of each student of every class period.
Facilitate all YESS surveys within the time limits and according to best practices at different times during the school year.


Curriculum

Implement YESS curriculum as outlined in the evidence-based YESS Road to Success Curriculum.


Recruitment

Recruit, match, and empower multiple classes of students/mentees and their peer mentors
Distribute the mentor application, interview and screen applicants to determine potential connection with youth and commitment to the program
Select, screen and interview mentors based on YESS mentor guidelines
Match selected mentors and mentees to ensure maximum program impact
Collaborate and consult with teachers and school administrators to identify appropriate mentees
Recruit, hire and supervise Mentor Leaders that will serve as a student employee for the YESS Institute based on YESS Mentor Leader guidelines


School

Collaborate with counselors, schedulers, and students to maintain class roster continuity
Promote the YESS program to teachers, staff and school community
Collaborate with teachers on YESS students’ social-emotional and academic performance
Act as an educational advocate for all students in YESS program
Attend all staff meetings and PD opportunities within school
Maintain current records of academic and behavioral performance of all students
Consult regularly with the school’s attendance, behavioral, intervention and prevention teams
Create publicity within school and community: highlighting peer mentors’ student engagement, leadership abilities, and impact with mentees
Collaborate with the YESS College Navigator regards the Post-secondary Readiness track for juniors and seniors
Secure all classroom supplies and technology as needed as provided by YESS.
Community

Strengthen parent to school connection for all YESS student parents / guardians
Collaborate and coordinate with school parent engagement team
Collaborate with school’s community partners to advance YESS students
Call, visit parents to build relationship and develop buy-in from parents
Attend all parent/teacher nights to meet parents and build relationships
Communicate on regular basis impact of program to parent and school stakeholders
Partner with other service organizations to create service learning opportunities for YESS students.
Requirements/Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience required
At minimum 3 years experience working with secondary-school youth in a professional setting
Experience working in disenfranchised communities with students of color.
Demonstrate commitment to, and understanding of youth development, and not-for-profit work
Strong classroom management skills applying best practices such as Love and Logic.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Self-motivated and initiative-driven; able to work both independently and in conjunction with team members; able to think creatively and be flexible in reaching strategic goals
Proactive in enhancing operational and organizational goals
Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
Can work in a school environment with little supervision/direction
Great colleague who supports, communicates and reaches out for support.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, informal environment
Demonstrate “Make it Happen” attitude.
Driven by excellence while understanding the need for self-care
Other duties as required
Compensation/Benefits
Salary is commensurate to experience, starting at $38,000.00 per year. YESS offers health insurance and provides generous contribution towards premium. Time off in alignment with school district during the school year.

Generous PTO in addition to entire month of July as paid time off with intent to return.
