Job Description:
WHO IS OWL?

OpenWorld Learning (OWL) is a nonprofit that provides fun and challenging school day, after-school, and summer education programs aimed at increasing digital literacy by teaching advanced computer technology to Denver area students. We aim to offer equal opportunities through technology via school day, afterschool and summer programs for all participants that help them develop digital literacy skills. We provide a fun and safe way for our students to learn computer technology through personal and meaningful project creation and peer teaching. We provide students with real-world learning opportunities that they may otherwise not have access to, and we support improved school attendance and standardized test scores, especially in math.

JOB DESCRIPTION

● Assist After School Site Leader in managing/creating an effective lab, facilitating OWL curriculum, and demonstrating collaboration and teamwork that promotes a strong OWL identity.

● Assist After School Site Leader with student data input and project completion mark offs as needed.

● Serve as a role model and mentor to OWL students by modeling a positive attitude, a healthy self-image, and creating an atmosphere of trust.

● Work to become highly proficient in both syntax and iconic based programming languages found in many of the different educational software we utilize in our curriculum such as LOGO, Scratch & LEGO robotics.

● Empower students to develop personally meaningful projects that ignite a love of learning.

● Help create a fun environment by bringing new ideas and positive energy to the classroom.

● Demonstrate teamwork and community outreach skills by interacting with OWL partners, other staff, participants and their parents on a regular basis

Requirements/Qualifications
Experience working in youth development
Interest in technology and willingness to learn the curriculum
Punctuality, flexibility, positivity, and patience
Reliable transportation

DETAILS

● Rate of pay starts at $13.25/hour ● Approximately 15 hours per week ● Monday through Thursday from approximately 3:00 to 6:00 pm ● 3 Fridays per month approximately 3:00 to 5:00 pm ● Weekly completion of “on my own” curriculum training
